Essentially, you have three choices when deciding to use this service:
1. Call a computer is now widespread, and in almost all cases, a free way to use a computer telephony service. With this type of telephone service computer, the person you are calling must be signed with the service provider that same phone. You use your mouse and keyboard to make and receive calls. However, you can get something called a softphone "or" USB phone "that lets you use your handset instead of your regular mouse and keyboard. One of the most popular companies use today is Skype. For a price, you can also buy a phone number to call or receive calls just like a regular phone.
2. IP (Internet Protocol) phones are internet phones and function as a regular phone. Rather than a phone jack in the wall, they have a connector that connects directly to your router. With an internet phone, you do not need to use the computer to talk, or dial. You only need an Internet connection and your IP phone works.
2 (a). WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) or mobile IP Phone WLAN handsets are used for making wireless voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) PC demand. They have a wireless transmitter built instead of a port. All that is necessary to make a call is access to the internet via a wireless connection. Some cell phone companies are designing their phones to use WiFi. This means that you can either use the cell network standard or make a call using the WiFi Internet (commonly called a hotspot Wi-Fi).
3. An analog telephone adapter (ATA) is another version of computer telephony services. With this adapter you can plug a standard phone, your computer or your Internet connection. Some telephone companies include ATA with their normal service packages.
