Landline Internet

I fixed internet on my desktop that is not wireless and I do not have a wireless router. I plugged the cord of my laptop and it recognizes the Internet is there, but it said limited or no connectivity, but it works very well on the desktop. Is there a setting or something I have to change to get internet on my laptop via the land line connection?

You must install the software provided by your ISP.
