Answering Machine - make a strong first impression I recently started a home business. Following this case I phone people across the United States. I can not believe the messages that people leave their answering machine. I know everyone has their own personality and ways of expression, but using an answering machine do not leave a good first impression.
As I made my phone calls that I met all sorts of messages. Some people have the standard computer voice that no one is available please leave a message, and others have the standard message that is proposed in the used book that you get with an answering system . These messages may seem boring, but they leave the caller with a neutral person who is called. Of these two, I prefer to hear the voice of the person stating that they are unavailable and to leave a message.
Other messages that I encountered are answering the odd rude. The midrange is the people that leave very detailed instructions on how you leave a message and what to put on it. I found that often times people who want most of the details have more time available is to leave a message. Finally I cut and have to remember and to listen to all the instructions again to let the rest of my post. Some people have taken from cartoons or movies that are used for their message. Others blare of music for the first few seconds, then a recorded message. This is great if you use your phone only for friends and family, but if you are unemployed and have given your number on a CV is not the best idea.
The messages are rude or worse. An answering machine had the message if you think you're important enough for me to return to leave a message. Another said that I am not the most likely to return to losing you, but go ahead and leave a message. Others have offensive inviting you to get lost because a message will not be returned.
As I make my calls to arrange interviews, and these are all people who have requested telephone interviews, I think I noted people from the start. If I encounter a rude message on an answering my first time I leave a message asking him to come back to me, and I'm not going to make another call to that person. I also make a note on their resumes on the type of message they have on their answering machine. I do not think people understand that the messages they leave others to make a strong first impression.
